Preppy Clothing Sales
I went to the mall the day before yesterday to get new Ipod headphones and as I was walking past all the stores I saw that nearly every one was having a sale. Express, Banana Republic, Gap, Am
erican Eagle to name just a few. I picked up this shirt at Express just because everything was on sale.
Does anyone know why everything is on sale right now? I mean it was like a Tuesday at the beginning of summer. I guess they were just trying to make room for new summer stuff, but I assumed they did that earlier, like in the Spring…
A little too much?
Hey I just got this new match crest polo and thought I’d share it:
The back logo looks small for a match crest shirt but its only because its all wrinkly and folded weird and just came out of the wash. Yeah yeah I should have ironed it… I’ll do that later.
Anyways… too ostentatious? Its one thing to wear a tiny little pony or alligator but another to have a whole polo match being played on your back. I kind of like it though, and it doesn’t feel weird having something that big embroidered on the back like I thought it might. Anyways it was a gift so of course I’ll wear it, but I just wanted to share some intense preppiness.
(Ralph Lauren Match Crest Polos were $125 but are now down to $80 I believe)
Cashmere and Cardigans: I just don’t get it.
So this must be preppy blasphemy, going against both cashmere and cardigans, two staples of the preppy wardrobe but I’d just like to say that I just don’t understand their appeal
First, Cashmere. I’d like to say that I do understand why people like this fabric. It is very soft and feels amazing and is all around a good thing to have clothes made out of, yo. But the thing I don’t understand is why people are willing to pay enormous amounts of money for something made of cashmere. This may seem hypocritical because it seems like all preppy clothes are overpriced, but at least you are paying for a brand. Things made of cashmere are incredibly expensive only so that the wearer can feel the exact feel, no one else really knows that its cashmere unless a conversation is struck up. In addition to the fact that you are paying a huge amount of
money that doesn’t feel that different from fake cashmere it is also difficult to wash and maintain. When you have paid over a hundred dollars for something made of cashmere, it is essential that you take care of it, meaning the clothing item that was supposed to be comfortable is now being worn in fear that it may some how get damaged or dirty. Washing cashmere is a whole other matter.
Second, I don’t understand cardigans as a preppy clothing item. In isolated cases, a cardigan can look good, and it serves a function of being something other than a shirt or sweater to wear. Maybe it is just me, but when I think of cardigans I think of old ladies, especially when they are not brightly colored but rather beige or grey or something. When any girl under the age of 40 wears one, especially ones in their twenties and teens it disturbs me cause they don’t realize how frumpy they look. Maybe it is because they have a gross cheap one and all they need is a nicer one, but cardigans in general don’t look good on men or women in my personal opinion. On men they look out of place, like they are wearing tight fitting women’s clothes, and on women they look like they are wearing something 50 years past their age. Why not just wear a sweater or a sweater vest? Or any number of other outfits.
The worst of both worlds:

Not my cup of tea… (and especially at $600-$900)
A $895 Cashmere Cardigan from Ralph Lauren’s Purple Label. Does this look like its worth $895? not to me it doesn’t…
